I was not wild about the fabric choice, and the padding was not great, but the worst part was the piece smelled musty on our rainy day.
When I got all the staples out, I was a little surprised to see old upholstery under the new -
but less surprised at the condition of the stuffing -
It was a layer of sawdust and wood chips next to the wood, with loose batting on top before the fabric was stapled to the wood. The plywood was split as you can see in the photo. A trip to the hardware store got us new plywood and brackets. All it took then was a little stapling of fabric and batting and foam I had on hand, while Norris did some drilling to get the L brackets attached, and I have a dandy footrest/bench.
That's our living room rug underneath. I decided to take photos of the new furniture in the living room while I had the camera out. As with my bench above, the flash finds tautness and wrinkles in the fabric that are not visible to the eye.
We have to decide if this rug stays or moves to our bedroom. These are all the upholstered pieces, but there are a console table, end table, and a small chest to come.

It's always so exciting to re-do to have new. I love the bench and the fabric you chose for it. Everything looks very sleek, clean and uncluttered. I like it!!
Hope everyone - people and cats - is enjoying the new furniture. Personally I think the rug looks just fine with your new pieces and is a good amalgamation of new with existing. That single chair looks very sleek.
