Young bear was looking toward the sunflower feeder that Norris just this morning had hung back in place for the goldfinches and mourning doves. Cheryl called out "bear!" inside the house, which made the bear stop-- providing a photo op through the kitchen window. Deciding there was no threat, our visitor started coming down to the feeder. Norris had just replaced the squirrel-proof feeder's broken perches from the last bear visit and he wasn't going to let the bear have it.
Norris moved out onto the porch. Just like last time, the bear snorted angrily each time he was encouraged to keep moving by Norris' voice. Ella watched from the safety of the kitchen.
We have heard that a bear can smell sunflower seeds a mile away. The squirrel-proof feeder is in the shed until natural food sources for bears are more plentiful again.

What "natural food sources" are the bears missing out on this time of year? I trust the sunflower seed is in a more secure location. Good photos of an animal who seemed to know just where to find exactly what he/she needed to eat this morning.
Dear Cheryl, I have been reading about your bear! Goodness me - I thought Australia was bad enough with local wildlife (well, those of us who have lived in the 'bush' ie outside of a large city, have had to deal with some beasties on occasion), but these bears are something else. Obviously you live in an area where they feel quite at home!!!!!
Thank you for your photos of the areas you have visited recently - I am enjoying seeing the old homes in particular.
