The crowd is considerably smaller than on dry 4ths
But Uncle Sam was there
The youngsters waited impatiently for the show to start
I noticed my neighbor walk by with his grandson!
So I ran up to get a better photo of Mitchell for his other grandparents in Australia
Here's Mitchell's Mom and his sister Charlotte
I asked Leah if I could get a better photo of Charlotte - and it turns out she's wearing a dress her Grandmother bought while she was vacationing in the Mediterranean! She says Hello!!
Finally the parade gets to us in front of the church
The sheriff was quite generous with candy for the kids - and for my companion Michelle whose birthday was yesterday
The official flags come right behind the banner
The Parade Marshalls
The Veterans Float pulled by the restored antique truck
The Veterans
This vehicle was new to the parade this year. We think it was a SWAT team truck
We haven't seen these ladies in prior years either!
100 Years for the North Carolina Extension and Community Association
The usual kids on bikes - lots of them ...
... and ATVs.
Only one horse
And it was a surprise to see this rusted vehicle was road-worthy.
Another Uncle Sam (!?!) and Lady Liberty
Mike from the Fire Department had a big smile to wish Michelle a Happy Birthday
This year Norris was driving Engine 14-2
He was way up above us!
This is the RCFD's ATV that gets a lot of use finding lost and injured tourists off the Blue Ridge Parkway
With all the rain, the crowd lingered at the Community Center
...but no one was allowed to park on the sopping wet ball field and the MAMA helicopter didn't show up.

It seems the parade got the timing just right and all were able to enjoy the sun as they watched the celebration. Maybe horses don't like the rain.
Hi Cheryl, thanks for the thought and photographing the Grandkids. They looked great. Charlotte in her new dress and Mitchell hand in hand with his Pop. Very nice. The 4th July was a hit as usual. We remember sitting on the side of the raod and watching the parade pass, but it was a much nicer day in 2010 or was it 2011 cannot remember. Thanks Erika and Brian
